K.I.S.S. Systems (Keep it Simple and Sustainable)

Aug 13, 2025

Interface invites you to attend the next installment of our 2025 High Performance Buildings Educational Series, K.I.S.S. Systems (Keep it Simple and Sustainable), presented by Principals Jesse Agosta PE, HFDP, Steve Gross PE, BEMP, and Michael Flemming PE, LEED AP, BD+C, CxA, CEM.

This course explores how sustainability can be achieved through simple, well-coordinated design strategies that avoid unnecessary complexity. Using real project examples, the webinar highlights how collaboration among engineers, energy analysts, and commissioning agents leads to high-performance buildings that are easier to construct, operate, and maintain. Emphasizing passive design, streamlined systems, and user-focused solutions, the course is ideal for architects and building owners seeking resilient, sustainable outcomes with long-term usability and maintainability.

Pending: Attendees will earn 1 AIA LU|HSW

Learning Objective 1:
Identify passive design strategies that reduce mechanical load and extend system off-hours.

Learning Objective 2:
Understand how simplified mechanical systems can achieve sustainability goals through better operational outcomes.

Learning Objective 3:
Learn how commissioning supports maintainability by identifying complexity early and ensuring clear training for building operators.

Learning Objective 4:
Recognize the value of cross-discipline collaboration in delivering buildings that are both high-performing and easy to operate.

    August 26th, 12 PM EST & 12 PM PST

RSVP for Session One: 12 pm EST

RSVP for Session Two: 12 pm PST

    About the presenters:

    Jesse Agosta PE, HFDP, Principal

Jesse has focused his career on finding new and innovative ways to solve problems. This fresh thinking has led to many successful sustainable LEED and Net-Zero projects. Clients like to work with Jesse because he is responsive, thoughtful, and honest. Jesse’s market sector experience includes university campuses, healthcare, laboratories, hotels, and office buildings.

    Steve Gross PE, BEMP, Principal

Steve leads Interface’s Building Performance Team, specializing in energy analysis, daylighting, CFD, thermal comfort, and financial modeling. A licensed mechanical engineer in California, he focuses on advancing building technology and reducing carbon footprints. His expertise includes sustainable design, energy audits, LEED, Zero Net Energy, and Passivhaus projects. Steve has also conducted research on phase-change materials and natural ventilation, and frequently shares his knowledge through AIA workshops and conferences like ILFI Living Future and Greenbuild.

Michael Flemming PE, LEED AP, BD+C, CxA, CEM, Principal

Michael is the leader of the Commissioning Team and has experience in conducting commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (RCx), energy auditing, design coordination, functional testing, and savings analysis for new and existing buildings. He is experienced in leading project teams through the entire Cx and RCx process from pre-design to occupancy phases for HVAC, electrical, plumbing and related control systems.
