2024 AIA Conference on Architecture & Design
Australian Embassy Tour
May 28, 2024
We are pleased to announce that we will be part of a project tour at the 2024 AIA Conference on Architecture & Design.
On Friday, June 7, Roger Frechette III, PE, LEED AP, Managing Principal, Interface Engineering, and John Chapman, AIA, Principal at KCCT will give a tour of The New Embassy of Australia and discuss the incorporation of innovative sustainability features and resiliency in compliance with two different rating systems— achieving LEED Gold and a Green Building Council of Australia Green Star rating. Further, the discussion will examine how the design reconciled code compliance for both D.C. and Australian standards, such as life safety, security standards, and products.
Recently completed, the Embassy design draws inspiration from the Australian landscape and has been crafted with sustainable materials, while embodying a future-forward aesthetic and informality. The Institutional winner in the 2024 IIDA Design Competition which honors outstanding, innovative and original interior designs, the Embassy celebrates artists and makers from across Australia. Visitors can experience Australian art in various forms from the exterior as well as the interior. For light and views, the approachable footprint and expansive glass atrium take advantage of the location. The various high-performance systems work with the design, not against it.
The 2024 AIA Conference on Architecture & Design is in Washington, DC, June 5–8, 2024 and will bring together the often-siloed AEC industry to network, share knowledge, gain exposure, and find multidisciplinary solutions to today’s most pressing issues.
